چکیده

This study reports the results obtained on seventeen glass finds collected from archaeological site of Muricelle near Cosenza in Calabria (Italy), dated between first and third century AD. Chemical characterization was undertaken by using an electron probe micro analyser (EPMA). The glasses showed a soda–lime–silica composition indicating use natron as flux. comparison data those coeval available literature allowed us to subdivide into three compositional groups: (1) Mn_a, classified Roman-Mn glasses; (2) Mn_b, which can be compared Mn-unintentionally coloured Roman (3) Sb + Mn, recycling Mn Roman-type glasses. These groups were different not only with respect contents types decolourants but also for soda, lime, aluminium contents, highlighting raw materials primary production procedures used secondary production. characteristics suggested Levant region source Mn_a Mn_b groups. On other hand, group through recycling, involving melting mixing two (Sb-decolourised Mn-decolourised) Egyptian Levantine origins, respectively.

Roman coloured and opaque glass: a chemical and spectroscopic study

This work reports the results of an archaeometrical investigation of opaque Roman glass and is mainly focussed on the role of configuration and oxidation state of copper on the colour and opacity of red and green opaque finds (mosaic tesserae, game counters, and glass artefacts) from Sicily and Pompeii excavations. The glass fragments were characterised by EMPA, SEM-EDS, TEM, and XRPD analyses ...

An Archaeological Resource Assessment of Roman Northamptonshire

The Northamptonshire sites and monuments record currently contains 1573 records related to the Roman period, which constitutes 22.5% of the total. In Northamptonshire this period is characterized by intensively occupied and large scale rural landscape...
